Grace Community High School anglers Sam Reeves, son of LIFE & LAND editor Kelly Reeves, and Garrett Smith, both Sophomores, with their boat captain C.J. O’Neal, had a great year competing in the East Division of the Texas High School Bass Association with over 180 other high school teams. At the end of the trail, Sam and Garrett came out on top of the points standings earning the title of East Division Anglers of the Year. They received AOY trophies and $1,500 in THSBA Scholarship awards.

Garrett and Sam had a very successful season and both feel honored to receive this award. “We couldn’t have done it without Mr. O’Neal. We are just excited to compete, but winning makes it even better,” said Reeves. Smith, smiling, said, ” It has been really fun. I can’t wait until next year.”

The trio will now compete in the THSBA Angler of the Year Challenge presented by Academy Sports & Outdoors on June 24, 2023 on Lake Palestine.
